Why College?

In going to college my goal is to obtain a degree in my selected major.
I'm going to finish my basics during my first two years of college and then, I will spend the next two years working on my bachelor's degree in the field of study that I have decided on. I am going to college for me to benefit my future success. The factors for me choosing a college have to do mostly with affordability and if they offer my specific major or not. I will seek my moms advice and input when making my decision about which college to go to because she recently went back to school and got her bachelors degree and understands a lot about how to get financial aid and grants. Going to college will help me figure out my exact path better and help fill in some of the gaps of uncertainty in my plan for the future. I'm really looking forward to all the places it will take me!

Thanksgiving Break

This Thanksgiving break has been highly anticipated event for me. My plans for the break and celebrating the holiday are pretty simple. My mom will be working on Thanksgiving day, so I'm going with my boyfriend to his grandparents house to celebrate with him and his family. My family is getting together I think this Tuesday. I plan on baking twice baked potatoes with one of my moms most loved recipes. I'm excited, it should be a fun week!

My Job Findings

As an 18 year old senior in high school, a job that grabs my attention and that I'm qualified for would be a telephone receptionist/secretary for a business. The average pay for this job is $10 per hour. I would definitely recommend this job to anyone who is 18 years old and in high school.

Homeless to Harvard

The movie was very compelling. I loved the overall theme of determination and optimism. My favorite part was when she had the interview with the New York Times because. I thought what she had to say was very beautiful and vulnerable sounding. I would like to think that if I was faced with the same circumstances I would push through all the obstacles in my way and build my own path like Liz did. I think being able to find a light in the darkness is an extremely powerful and important ability and a true key to success in life.

My College Budgeting

Making a budget definitely caused me to come to some realizations. I was surprised that there was so many expenses each month. I expected the money to be tight but I didn't expect it to go that quickly between bills. I do think I will be ready for that amount of responsibility when graduation rolls around. For the time being though, I'm grateful that I don't have to worry about all that. It will definitely take a balancing act to juggle my classes, work, and making sure that my financial responsibilities are taken care of. Right now, I can start getting prepared by saving up every penny possible that I earn this year.

Dream Job

My dream job is to be a lion tamer. I've always had a fondness for animals and think it would be really cool to be able to develop a bond with fierce predator. There is no degree required for this profession; although I would still want to get a degree in something just to have one. I also like that there is good job security in being a lion tamer.

Stress

I'm pretty calm minded. Things that tend to stress others out usually don't seem to really effect me. Whenever I do get stressed though, it's almost always over something that is completely out of my control, which I believe is pointless. On the other hand, I do believe there is a certain kind of stress that is healthy and helps us to grow and challenge ourselves. That kind is usually over things that you do have control over.

Organizational Methods

My current organizational methods are to put all my homework from every class together in one folder so I can easily find what homework I have. And I have a planner that I never actually use. My method does work for me, although it could use a little bit of tweaking. The only thing I think I could do differently to improve my organization is to start using my planner to write down and keep track of future assignments and due dates.
In my opinion, procrastination can hurt a student in multiple ways. I think procrastination is the harvesting of laziness. Procrastination can have many negative effects on the student, one being not as good quality of work. Some ways to fight procrastination are to plan ahead and stick to a schedule.

Trying to Answer the Tough Questions

The topic of college, life goals, and plans for my future seem to have been coming at me left and right this year. I think people expect me to have those questions figured out for myself by now, or to at least think that I have it figured out. In actuality, the truth is that I have not got my heart set on any kind of career path. The thought of going to school twelve years (and then college) just to end up doing something that you don't even enjoy seems like a huge waste to me. Hopefully this year I will discover the perfect occupation for me.
